Your membership makes this designation possible, which helps protect your home and lower your insurance costs.

BTVPOA holds the nationally recognized Firewise Community designation — and keeping it matters. Firewise communities are proven to be better prepared for wildfire, to have lower insurance costs, and that designation directly benefits every property owner in Big Trees Village.

To maintain it, we actively support CAL FIRE's fire prevention program through a local lot inspection program. Creating defensible space isn't just the law — it's one of the most effective ways to protect your property and your neighbors. Download the certificate here.

How We Maintain Our Firewise Designation

Every year, 18 volunteer teams — all Big Trees Village property owners — walk the community and inspect every improved lot for compliance with CAL FIRE defensible space requirements. When a property needs attention, BTVPOA follows up with the owner to make sure it gets addressed.

Behind the scenes, our volunteers also coordinate with CAL FIRE, Ebbetts Pass Fire, and local lot cleaning services to keep the process running smoothly. And it all adds up — the hours spent on lot cleaning and our biannual rec center workdays directly contribute to maintaining our Firewise designation.

Want to help? We need volunteer lot inspectors.

If you enjoy walking and want an easy, meaningful way to give back to the community, this is it. No experience needed — just about 3 hours of your time. Call the Association office at 795-1971 or email manager@bigtreesvillage.org.

Firewise designation may also qualify you for homeowner's insurance discounts. [See which California insurers currently offer discounts in Firewise Communities.]
